E.R. Hickmott & Son

Family owned funeral directors since 1852

Over 170 years ago, the firm of T.J. Hickmott was founded at 41 Victoria Road in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. The name was changed to E.R. Hickmott & Son when his son Edward Richard took over in 1870. During the Second World War Keith’s wife Marjorie continued running the business through the war as well as bringing up their three children, Edward, John and sister Anne. Keeping true to family tradition Edward and his twin brother, who now lives in New Zealand, became qualified funeral directors in May 1959. The business is now run by the 6th generation, Robert. The present premises at 41 Grove Hill Road were acquired in 1962 and officially opened by the President of the National Association of Funeral Directors, of which Hickmott’s are members. The Victoria Road premises were used as offices and workshops until 1973 when the Grove Hill road premises were adapted to accommodate custom made facilities. At Grove Hill road the premises have been designed to include a mortuary, workshop and garage for our fleet of limousines. Hickmott and Son were early members of the National Society of Independent Funeral Directors and retain current membership of the Guild of Master Craftsmen and West Kent Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
