After William Simpson passed away, Stan took over the family business and worked here into his eighties. Through sheer hard work and dedication Stan built the reputation and standard of service and care that we are proud to uphold today. Over a century later W Simpson & Son are still at the heart of the Funeral Directors business in Sheffield and the surrounding areas. We are still located at the same Fitzwalter Road premises and remain one of only a handful of family owned, family run, independent Funeral Directors in the City. William Simpson was born in South Street, Sheffield, in 1893. In 1919, William married and expanded the Simpson family by having 7 children. One of his sons, Stanley joined the family business as a 14 year old and worked there into his eighties. William died in 1953 leaving Stan to take over the whole business, on his own, at only 27 years old. Following in his father’s footsteps, Stan became a very respectable member of not only the Park district of Sheffield but also the surrounding areas. Over the next 55 years Stan, through pure hard work, determination and love of his job, expanded the business to what it is today with the help of his family and dedicated staff. Stan passed away in August 2010 at the age of 82, a sad time for many. He was a very professional man who took a huge amount of pride in his work. Today, W Simpson & Son are still at the heart of the Funeral Directors business in Sheffield and the surrounding areas. We are still located at the same Fitzwalter Road premises and still one of only a handful of family owned and independent funeral directors in the City. Tony Simpson, Stan’s son, is now carrying on the good work of his father which started over 90 years ago. His team of Manager Tracy Neil and the rest of the committed staff are working together to maintain the reputation and good name started by William and carried on by Stan so many years ago.
